ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY CITY WOMEN'S GROUP
The UCWG began at a meeting on May 12, 1987, at the University Memorial Hospital. Founders Sally Carlin and Debi Thomas wanted to get together with other women in the Northeast Mecklenburg area. Their goal was to provide an opportunity for women of varied backgrounds and experiences to develop friendships and to share their talents and skills toward the general progress and welfare of the region. Since then, the UCWG has grown to meet the changing needs of its members and the community. We now have active representation in area organizations and are called upon to aid local interests and charities. The continued growth of the UCWG is due to the energy and dedication of its members, and to the recognition and support by the University City community. The University City Women's Group is grateful to all the women who have united to make our organization a highly visible and respected part of the University area of Mecklenburg County. We purpose to be a viable presence for many years to come.
